CSERAM wants to respect the traditional concept of school and individual growth.
School, in CSERAM, signifies life path, everything that by physical and mental practice helps the human be to ameliorate himself in his physical, mental and spiritual level.

Actually, it’s possible to work through these three canals:yingyang

  • body
  • mind
  • spirit

The union and the harmony of these three fundamental elements represents the completeness of our being; this was certainly the ancient purpose, the first aim of ancient martial arts schools: to create a good warrior, but overall a better person.

This is why CSERAM tries to regard everyone of these aspects; this is possible also by understanding the concept of Kapatiran or Persaudaraan: the concept of brotherhood.
It means that throughout martial art practicing you improve also your human relationships.

In fact, between students and their instructor there is a relationship based on respect and mutual help, also outside the doors of the school and beyond the martial study. All of this is possible by team spirit, brotherhood.

In Chinese martial arts this tradition was very common: students of the same master called each other “brother”, “Kung-Fu brothers”, and they were united and supportive in every situation; in many countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines we can find the same tradition of brotherhood and family.

Too often all of this is ignored, the only important thing is physical practicing, totally disregarding student’s mind, spirit and heart.

CSERAM’s purpose is to conduct a complete work on the body, the mind and the spirit.

CSERAM’s method follows the modern instructional models already current in United States, school’s perspective researches especially harmony and perfect fusion between tradition and efficacy.

So school’s commitment is split in research of traditional movements, useful to a good body education, the study of new motor models, to a good physical maintenance (Pencak Silat), and on the other side very simple movements, almost denuded of every frill, essential to a real, modern and efficient self-defense (Silat or Pukulan Silat).

In United States this method of teaching is already used with success since a long time, the two study areas are called self-protection and self-perfection.
The first one includes everything concerns the self-defense, every essential movement above mentioned, usable in case of real danger and in times when efficacy and rapidity are fundamental. The second one regards basically education and study of the body, health and psychophysical equilibrium and the completeness of the art.

This is the matter of the distinction between Pencak Silat (Pencak=movement, also in artistic sense, Silat=martial) and Pukulan (=hit, punch).

CSERAM tries to study both of this concepts and tie them in a harmonic way, considering them, also if with different objectives, both useful to a good development of a complete martial artist.
